Success of Long-term Strategic Partnership Demonstrated Through Sales Landmark
eCopy Paper Connection Forum, Miami, Fla., May 15, 2007 – Canon U.S.A., Inc. and eCopy Inc., a leading provider of solutions that integrate paper documents into business software applications, today announced that Canon U.S.A. has sold more than 50,000 eCopy ShareScan® software licenses through its dealer and retail channels. Achieving this milestone reflects the long-standing strategic partnership between Canon and eCopy as they help customers convert paper-based information into secure digital documents to keep pace with e-business processes.
eCopy ShareScan makes it easy for any office worker to scan paper-based information easily and securely from a Canon imageRUNNER multifunction product (MFP) into any electronic workflow. It has been available through Canon U.S.A. since 1999. In eCopy’s fiscal 2006, Canon U.S.A. achieved its highest ever eCopy ShareScan revenue, eclipsing the combined product revenues of eCopy’s four largest independent software competitors.
“eCopy ShareScan software is a valuable complement to Canon imageRUNNER MFPs, enabling customers to quickly and easily send documents to desktops, fax servers, business applications and e-mail right from their MFPs,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. , Inc. “Our close partnership with eCopy and our deep experience with their products has enabled us to provide compelling solutions for customers and achieve new sales records for eCopy software.”
According to Edward Schmid, eCopy president and CEO, “eCopy started with the vision that MFPs would fundamentally change document capture by enabling any knowledge worker to scan paper-based documents into electronic workflows by simply ‘e-copying’ them to an enterprise application. Canon has been an essential ingredient in turning this vision into a market leadership position as evidenced by achieving the 50,000 ShareScan license landmark.”
An important reason for eCopy’s market appeal is its direct integration to enterprise applications. eCopy software provides customers with the ability to use their imageRUNNER devices with more than 55 enterprise business applications such as EMC Documentum Content Server, IBM Content Manager, Captaris RightFax, FileNet, Interwoven, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Outlook/Exchange.
“Like microwave ovens and remote controls for TV, eCopy on our Canon imageRUNNER MFPs is something we can no longer do without,” said Larry Davick, project manager for the law firm Steefel, Levitt & Weiss. “My ability to administer them from my desktop is invaluable. For example, we have the regular need to send electronic copies of very large paper documents between our offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. From my PC on my desk in San Francisco I was able to create a button on the imageRUNNER device that automatically sends an e-copy over the network to LA. It only took a few minutes to set up.”
eCopy ShareScan can either be integrated inside the Canon multifunction product or can be attached via the eCopy ScanStationTM, an external touch screen and keyboard that connects to the outside of the device. Bundled with ShareScan, eCopy DesktopTM is a PC application that bridges the barrier between paper and electronic documents. It enables organizations to move information at Internet speed by making it easy for any office worker to create universally readable PDFs from paper documents and other electronic applications.
