Tighter integration enables users to scan documents directly from copier to the content management software system
eCopy Paper Connection Forum, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 3, 2006 — eCopy, Inc., a leading provider of solutions that integrate paper documents into enterprise software applications, today announced that EMC has integrated its Documentum ApplicationXtender with eCopy ShareScan document capture software. Documentum ApplicationXtender combined with eCopy ShareScan enables organizations to dramatically increase the amount of paper-based information stored to their content management system, thereby reducing the cost of ownership, promoting compliance, and improving customer service.
"EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender together with eCopy has helped us leverage our investments in both our content management system and our copiers," said Ronald Morrell, MIS Director for Welch & Forbes, a provider of investment services for high net worth individuals. "Documents that were once outside of our digital workflows are now being stored to Documentum ApplicationXtender. eCopy and EMC are helping us accelerate our business processes and customer responsiveness by freeing the information that would have been locked up in paper documents and stored in filing cabinets."
EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender electronically stores, organizes, and manages documents, files and other business-critical information, and provides fast, security-controlled access to information from Microsoft Windows or Web-based clients. The EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender Connector for eCopy ShareScan transforms a copier into a content management system client. The ApplicationXtender integration with eCopy ShareScan transforms the document imaging and distribution software into a content management system client right at the copier. This approach makes set up and administration as simple and fast as it is with any other ApplicationXtender client on the network, minimizing demands on IT resources.
"Document capture software has become increasingly strategic as companies electronically collect, digitize, and categorize more information," said Brad Florin, general manager, Imaging and Archiving for EMC Software Group. "eCopy software addresses the distributed capture requirements of the enterprise by enabling any office worker - not just the dedicated document capture specialist -- to convert paper documents into instantly usable electronic business information. By improving input processes, organizations are better equipped to classify information, create policy-based workflows, and automate information lifecycle management."
The ApplicationXtender integration with eCopy ShareScan maintains document security by reflecting unique user permissions at the copier to protect against unauthorized use. The software also provides a comprehensive audit trail, which is a critical requirement for organizations that store sensitive Sarbanes-Oxley compliance information or other sensitive information in their ApplicationXtender repositories. "
eCopy plays a very complementary role to EMC content management software by focusing on an organization's ad hoc scanning needs rather than production scanning," said Vickie Malis, vice president of Marketing at eCopy. "Our software addresses the early stages of information lifecycle management by integrating paper-based information with electronic business processes so organizations can take a holistic approach to managing and maximizing their information assets."
eCopy ShareScan is document imaging and distribution software that transforms digital copiers and scanners into information hubs by integrating paper documents directly into the workflow of critical processes.
EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender Connector for eCopy ShareScan sells for US$1,195 per copier. The software supports Canon, HP, Ricoh, Sharp, and Toshiba digital copiers and many TWAIN supported document scanners.
