Software Enables FileNet Users to Scan Documents Directly from Office Copiers to their ECM System
eCopy Paper Connection Forum, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 3, 2006 — eCopy, Inc., a leading provider of solutions that integrate paper documents into enterprise software applications, today announced the eCopy Connector for FileNet. The new software Connector enables any office worker to use their copier to incorporate paper-based information into electronic workflows of critical business processes by simply "e-copying" them to a FileNet Enterprise Content Management (ECM) application.
The eCopy Connector for FileNet integrates eCopy document imaging and distribution software with FileNet, making it easy to add, index, and route paper documents directly from a copier to a folder in a FileNet ECM repository.
The eCopy Connector transforms eCopy software into a client of a FileNet ECM server, enabling real-time interaction with the server at the copier. FileNet, a leading provider of Enterprise Content and Business Process Management solutions, enables the world's leading companies and government agencies to streamline and automate their business processes, access, and manage all forms of content and automate records management to help meet compliance needs.
"eCopy addresses an organization's ad hoc document scanning needs, so any of the hundreds of millions of office workers with access to a copier can add paper-based information directly to automated business processes," said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer for FileNet. "The software provides a gateway to FileNet's scalable, secure environment so that a complete set of digital information is available at the right time to enable our customers to make better decisions, faster."
The Connector provides a number of features that improve processes and increase efficiency. To eliminate scanning errors and ensure image quality, previews of the scanned documents are shown on the copier touch panel. The eCopy Connector validates the user at the copier and maintains an audit trail to the individual and not just to the device - helping organizations guard against unauthorized document distribution.
The software identifies individual users, granting them the same FileNet ECM access at the copier as at their desktops. This allows users to access recently used libraries or folders with one touch so documents can be stored quickly, while limiting access to authorized libraries or folders.
FileNet administrators can configure up to nine eCopy buttons for instant scanning into specific areas of the FileNet repository, such as "scan to contracts" or "scan to human resources," increasing efficiency and reducing potential for misplaced documents.
"With this Connector, organizations have greatly expanded options for document capture by leveraging eCopy as a corporate software standard across heterogeneous copier brands throughout the enterprise," said Vickie Malis, eCopy vice president of Marketing. "This makes it possible for organizations to improve decision-making by unlocking the information previously destined for file cabinets." The eCopy Connector for FileNet supports Canon, HP, Ricoh, Sharp, and Toshiba digital copiers and TWAIN supported document scanners. The Connector requires eCopy ShareScanTM and FileNet Content Services 5.3 or 5.4 or FileNet Image Services 3.6 or 4.0. The manufacturer's suggested price for the Connector is US$1,195 per copier.
